I've been meaning to post about these for a few weeks now but have only just got around to taking photos of these guys. Aren't they the cutest? I took their portraits in the shop this morning and I think they did an excellent job of posing! They're handmade toys from Danielle Ryan, who goes by the name daniOwl and is from right here in Perth. Each creature is made using a range of carefully selected vintage fabrics and threads, and each one is unique. A huge amount of time and care goes into the details of each creature - the little nest holding the owl has all sorts of different threads sewn through it, in much the same way as a real nest would, and the little Loki Monster in the bottom right (don't you love his pose?) has tiny knees and elbows stitched in. Only the best fabrics are used as well (Danielle's latest creation, the Grizzly Bear, is made from beautiful soft lama wool), and care is taken with each and every detail. When she was in recently, Danielle told me that even the pink thread attaching the tags is from France! What I love most about these creatures is that each one has its own character - I feel like I have a bunch of little friends with me in the shop! I have to get used to saying goodbye, though, because they've been selling fast! Make sure you pop in and say hello if you're in the area :)
